House & Rooms 집
Rooms and parts of a Korean home.

Ad
1 / 20 This set covers the rooms and parts of a Korean home: living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, entrance, balcony and more. You will use these words when you rent a room, talk with a host family or landlord, or describe where things are at home. More than half of Korean households live in apartments, and many homes still have heated floors called ondol. A cultural note: you take your shoes off at the entrance, so the entrance has a small lower floor for shoes. Look at each picture, say the word, and then walk around your own home naming every room and part in Korean.
Say the name of each room out loud as you walk into it. Do it for one week and the words will stay.

Frequently asked questions
Why do Koreans take off shoes at home?
The floor is used for sitting and sleeping, and ondol heating makes it a clean, warm surface, so shoes stay at the entrance.
What is ondol?
A traditional floor heating system; modern homes use hot water pipes under the floor.
